Recent Grant Awards
From the May 2011 Grant Cycle:
- $8,911 from the B.R. and Margaret Desenberg Fund ($3,600.00)and the Schirmer Fund ( $5,311.00)to the Buchanan District Library for summer programming, was approved.
- $2,500 from the Buchanan Area Fund for the Buchanan Art Center to hold a summer workshop for youth 7-12 called Big Bad Bugs take Buchanan
- $500 from the Sullivan Fund for additional lights and greenery for the holiday season in Buchanan
- $10,000 from Buchanan Area Fund to the Buchanan Preservation Society, payable over two years, for the McCoy Creek Improvement Project
- $1,000 from Unity Hospital Education Fund to the Buchanan Lions Club to purchase a custom designed wheelchair to meet the needs of an area youth with Spina Bifida.
- $10,000 from Unity Hospital Education Fund to Lakeland Health Foundation to support the Emergency Room expansion at Lakeland Hospital, Niles. Payable over 5 years.
- $1,520 from Youth Funds to Lewis Cass ISD for the fall Backpack program.
- $2,000 from Youth Funds to Interactive Music Assemblies for Kids for free interactive mobile programs.
- $1,000 from Youth Funds to the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award (for youth programming at Cassopolis United Methodist Church)
From the August 2011 Grant Cycle:
- $10,000 to Cass County Council on Aging for Adult Day Services and in home Respite Care, from the Cass County Mental Health Association Endowment Fund.
- $10,000 to Woodlands Behavioral Health for Substance Abuse Counseling Programs, from the Cass County Mental Health Association Endowment Fund.
- $2,500 to Cass Alcohol Safety Solutions, for prevention of underage drinking, from the Cass County Mental Health Association Endowment Fund.
- $5,000 to Woodlands Behavioral Health for Summer Camp for Community Wrap-Around Participants, from the Cass County Mental Health Association Endowment Fund.
- $2,500 to the Niles Buchanan YMCA for the Strong Kids/ Healthy Families program, providing youth scholarships for Y membership, from the Youth Funds.
- $6,750 to Buchanan Preservation Society for a Structural Evaluation done by a professional Engineer of the Ross-Sanders House in Buchanan, from the Buchanan Area Fund.
- $600 to The Saddle Stars Program at the Therapeutic Equestrian Center, from the Cory Listenberger Bair Memorial Fund.
- $15,000 to Woodlands Behavioral Health for Supplemental Substance Counseling, Woodland Addiction Program, from the Cass County Mental Health Association Endowment Fund.
From the November 2011 Cycle:
- $10,000 to New Tech Entrepreneurial Academy at Niles High School, payable over three years, from the Niles Area Fund, Smith Fund for Niles, and the Cone Fund.
- $5,000 to Lake Michigan College, payable over two years, from the Niles Area Fund, Smith Fund for Niles, and the Cone Fund.
- $1,000 to Niles Community Schools, for repair of donated instruments, from the Niles Music Club Endowment Fund.
- $1,527 to Fernwood Botanic Garden, for a high efficiency water heater in the Nature Center, from the Jon Meyer Memorial Endowment Fund.
- $500 to the City of Buchanan/DDA, to purchase Christmas Decorations for the downtown, from the George and LaVonne Sullivan Fund.
- $1,000 to Brandywine High School for the History Club trip to St. Louis, from the Youth Funds.
- $7,000 to City of Buchanan/McCoys Creek Trail, for a trail link from the Commons to the Tin Shoppe Theater, from an anonymous donor advised fund.
- $500 to the Salvation Army, for the weekend food backpack program, from the Youth Funds.
